NASCAR Pennsylvania 500 Betting Preview (Aug 3)
Pinnacle Sportsbook likes Jimmie Johnson to win his second consecutive race in the Sprint Cup Series at the Pennsylvania 500 at Pocono Raceway on Sunday. To lay down money on the favoured Johnson at +555, 6.550*, and for the best odds on online NASCAR betting, check out Pinnacle Sports Betting Lines this week.
Johnson cashed for punters last week at the Allstate 400 at Indianapolis, overcoming the tire fiasco that marred the race for his third victory of the season. JJ became only the second driver in NASCAR history to win at the Brickyard after securing the pole in qualifying, and has finished in the top 10 in six of the last eight races.
Punters shouldn’t rule out Series points leader Kyle Busch, despite last weekend’s 15th-place showing. Busch is priced at +685 at the Pinnacle Sportsbook to win at Pocono, although his older brother Kurt has had more success there. The senior Busch (+4500, 46.000* ) won this event last year and in 2005, and was eighth earlier this year when Kasey Kahne (+606, 7.060*) took the checkered flag at Pocono.
If you’re looking for the driver who’s had the most sustained success at the Pennsylvania 500, look no further than Jeff Gordon (+1610, 17.100*). Gordon has won the race four times, and has a bankable 15 top-five finishes at Pocono during his illustrious career.
Demonstrating value deep in the field is veteran Mark Martin, who has been the runner-up at this track six times without cashing a single victory. Martin has recorded an unbelievable 30 top-10 showings and 19 finishes in the top five at Pocono over his career. Pinnacle Sportsbook has Martin listed at +3232, 33.320* to win Sunday’s race outright.
Denny Hamlin is a sharp pick at +726, 8.260*. Hamlin has never finished worse than sixth in five starts at Pocono, and took the flag in both races at the track in 2006. With an average finish of 2.8 and two wins under his belt, Hamlin has to be considered one of the contenders heading into Sunday.
