Football Betting: Week 17 - Steelers Could Play Spoilers in Cincinnati
Pittsburgh Out to Ruin Bengals’ Chances of Taking their Title
The Pittsburgh Steelers were officially eliminated from post-season contention last weekend, meaning they won’t get a chance to defend their championship this year. The Steelers, though, can still finish at the .500 mark and cause trouble for a rival in their regular-season finale against the Cincinnati Bengals today.
Pittsburgh was barely in the game against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 16, going down 14-0 early and eventually losing by a final score of 31-7 at Heinz Field. The Steelers had actually been listed as the favorites in that game, but didn’t come through for their supporters. The combined score was an OVER play.
Ben Roethlisberger completed just 15-of-31 pass attempts for 156 yards versus the Ravens, with one touchdown strike and two interceptions. Willie Parker picked up only 29 rushing yards on 13 carries, while Heath Miller had a TD catch. The Steelers are now 6-8-1 against-the-spread, and 9-5-1 on the OVER/UNDER.
Oddsmakers at www.PinnacleSports.com opened Cincinnati as 6-point home favorites against Pittsburgh in Week 17. The Bengals were underdogs on the road against the Denver Broncos last week, and covered the spread but lost the game in a 24-23 decision. That makes Cincinnati 8-7 straight-up through 15 games this year, and 8-6-1 against-the-spread. As well, they’re 7-8 on the OVER/UNDER this season.
The Bengals came up short against the Broncos last week after a late PAT was botched. Carson Palmer went 21-of-40 for 209 yards in that key AFC matchup, with two touchdown passes and two INTs. Rudi Johnson ran for 129 yards and a score, while T.J. Houshmandzadeh and Chris Henry had TD catches. The loss dropped Cincinnati behind Denver in the Wild Card standings.
Cincinnati and Pittsburgh met at Heinz Field in late September, and the Bengals came away with a 28-20 road victory. The Steelers had been favored by 2 points at home in that game, while the combined score was an OVER play. Last season they split their two regular-season matchups, with each team winning on the road.
